Artist Statement
My work reveals the contention between how the mind and the body remember a place. Over the past several years, I've used personalized strategies to strengthen my recollection of spaces I have lived in, visited, or inhabited in a dream. Losing the ability to conjure these sites results in an irrevocable state of being. Landmarks from my past are charted through ongoing perception rather than fixed recordings; relying on mind palaces and other mnemonic devices, both somatic and psychological approaches of visualization result in mixed perspective landscapes that bunch with memory and stretch from unfamiliarity. This body of work unleashes a metaphysical world in which lived experiences are re-imbued into the blueprints of their infrastructures, embracing the distortion of perception that occurs during repeated recollection.
Anna Falk
Anna Falk (b. 2004) is an emerging artist working out of Philadelphia, PA, and Savannah, GA. Exploring motion and memory through negative space, her work has been exhibited at galleries such as ARTS Southeast and the Maryland Federation of Art. Currently, her work is on the cover of "In Contrast" by the MFA, and she is featured in an artist spotlight by Up The Staircase Quarterly. Anna is pursuing a B.F.A. in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design, projected to graduate in May of 2026.
Artist Statement
My paintings offer material reflections on impermanence, connection, and recollection. I depict lived experience as both distinct and collective, using sequence and shadow to place the personal within the collective unconscious. Conceptual contradictions are fundamental to my practice. Static forms culminate in motion as I investigate the relationship between decay and time, while organic shapes and motifs symbolize connection and temporality. My use of sequence questions traditional notions of time and movement in a typically static medium, all ideas that influence my material process through cycles of sanding, dissolving, and repainting.

I am no more than a material obsessive scavenger, with the means to create. I apply great importance to the qualities of my materials that can only be earned with time, as these battle scars and patina are what tell their story. I simply give them a reason and stage to do so.

The work I have produced is the result of my continued efforts and daily devotion to improving my craft. Through drawing, I feel most attuned to my being. My imagery is derived from my subconscious through memory and emotion. In this, I hope to inspire others to express themselves as I do, authentically and wholly true to themselves.
